Did That PewDiePie Honkey Say The N-Word?

PewDiePie; he’s just a moron.

So the context here is PewDs’ mouth did it again. Not too long ago, he got the ax from pretty much free money from Disney for anti-Semitic remarks. Like I said, he’s a moron. Now, he’s dropped an N-bomb, and after seeing the video, I can’t figure out why.

If you don’t know not to use that word, you’re fictional. Whether you think you can or not, you just don’t. It’s another one of those things that Americans would like to forget and Europeans, for example, really have no reason to say it at all. If it’s said even on the Internet, the word just doesn’t seem to exist without some degree of emotion.

And that’s what hit me – there just wasn’t any emotion.

He’s doing his Let’s Play thing with a new shooter game on Twitch, gets frustrated by another player, and calls him the N-word, just about as simply as that. But dammit, it’s so much more complicated than that. At first, I thought maybe he just spun the wheel of filth in his head and that’s what came out, but then I watched it again. It’s just too casual. It comes out just way too easy. Too…conversational.

And when he realizes what he said and half attempts to, perhaps, apologize/cover his ass…he stops. Stops, laughs, and continues the Let’s Play. To me that was the “tell”: this really wasn’t seen as taboo for him.

I could talk about “emotive language,” as it is classified, or even the normalcy of truly horrible and hateful speech that is completely accepted and expected on the Internet, but that ain’t the thing here. Really it’s “how the Hell is a Swede dropping the N-word so damn casually?”

Who knows, and frankly, who cares? In the end it’s just a symptom of a much greater problem, and to be honest, much worse because we can count it as a real American export. 60 years after the Civil Rights movement and 150 years after the Civil War race is still an issue. Our nation is polarized. We have Nazis in our streets. The Internet and Social Media are diseased with threats of violence, rape, and urgings to commit suicide. We are becoming less civil by the day and our language reflects that.

Regardless of what some would like to believe, the United States does not and cannot live in a vacuum: somewhere a bigot in a bayou says the N-word and a Swede repeats it. And like a child that swears in front of Grandma, PewDiePie had to hear it somewhere.
